I was appalled at the extremely low quality of Revell's recent 1/72 figure line. Most of the guys weren't even any good to use as replacement heads on Afrika Korps soldiers - however, the Revell 8th Army figure set contained a wonderful surprise: a finely modelled soldier, widely grinning as he sits on a barrel and eats his daily ration of M&V.

Hät/Airfix 1/72 Bedouins

Hät's recent remake of the old Airfix figures managed to surpass the original figures in low quality and ultra-soft material, but I needed a number of heads with Arabian headgear.

Esci 1/72 Commandos, 8th Army, ANZACS

I found a whole bunch of old Esci figure packs on the flea market, maybe I'll use one or two figures from these sets.

Alemany 1/72 German 8,8 Flak with crew

I actually bought this kit not for the figures, but because it's supposed to be the finest ack-ack available in 1/72nd scale (which it definitely is). The figures are extremely fine white metal castings, and the set contains a radio operator with headphones who after some minimal filing work on the uniform makes a great addition to my wireless truck.

Preiser HO Arabs

All the Preiser figures (including the animals) are pretty small for 1/76 dioramas - they have to be placed carefully to make the size difference to 1/72 / 1/76 figures less obvious.

Ordering this diorama set was the easiest -and, surprisingly, cheapest- way to get all the Woodland foliage and white metal casts I wanted.
